Waterbar BRAK

Waterbar BRAK was developed for the experimental organisation Lab Vlieland. In collaboration with Studio Floris Schoonderbeek, Collectief Soepel assisted Weltevree in the design, development and realisation of this installation. Waterbar BRAK was presented during the festival Into The Great Wide Open in the summer of 2017.

The name ‘Brak’ means ‘brackish water’: the installation was built during an exploration for the optimal use of water on the island Vlieland. It functions as a water treatment plant: sea- and rainwater is collected and purified, until it can be used as drinking water. The bar itself is a scale model of the water cycle on Vlieland. Special ‘waterbarista’s’ tell customers the story of this cycle, and serve watercocktails, (ice)tea’s and lemonades, all made with the island’s water.
