Plantkasteel is a greening system that enhances biodiversity, reduces heat stress, and adds shade to inner-city environments. With connectable elements and integrated water storage, it instantly brings more greenery to public squares, campuses, sports parks, and business districts — all with minimal maintenance.
Based on the strong original concept by Bureau voor Groen, we redesigned and realized the system. We introduced a modular structure and a water tower, built from durable outdoor materials, allowing the system to remain self-sufficient for longer and operate more sustainably.
At the very place where it all began for Bureau voor Groen — HAN University of Applied Sciences — the pilot installation now stands, already cautiously coming into bloom. Congratulations to Bureau voor Groen, and here’s to many more Plantkastelen transforming our city centers.
A collaboration between Bureau voor Groen, Optigruen Benelux, BVB Landscaping, Venhorst Plant, HAN University of Applied Sciences, and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.
