In December and January, the Amsterdam Light Festival illuminates the city of Amsterdam. Every year, artists from all over the world create light artworks specifically for the festival. The festival can be experienced by boat, bike, or on foot.
For the artist Sergey Kim we realized “Omen”. A big light installation of a lightning bolt. An imposing symbol of nature’s power and beauty, but also of its unpredictability. Frozen in time and contained in a vessel. It gives us a moment to admire the captivating beauty and terrifying destructive force of this sudden and fleeting natural phenomenon up close. It also gives us time to appreciate and ponder on the symbolic role it plays in the rituals and beliefs of all of Amsterdam’s diverse inhabitants.
